5th and 6th Growth and Development

Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th and 6th graders,

Our school is about to study an important lesson on the early stages of puberty that many fifth and sixth graders are beginning to experience; our program will be held at school in June during the last two weeks.

The 'Always Changing and Growing Up Program' helps boys and girls:

  • Understand the physical and emotional changes they experience during puberty, and acknowledge these changes as a normal part of growth and development,

  • Learn the physiology of their bodies and correct terminology for parts of the reproductive system, and

  • Understand that personal hygiene is each individual's responsibility.

In addition, the program helps girls:

  • Understand the menstrual cycle,

  • Understand what to expect during a period, and

  • Learn how to manage periods while continuing with normal activities.

The 'Always Changing and Growing Up Program' is based on national research and consultation with school nurses, health educators, parents, and medical professionals. It has been a trusted resource for over 30 years and taught to millions of students nationwide. The students will be separated into boy and girl classes to view their video. Parents may preview this video online on YouTube "Always Changing and Growing up Girls Puberty Education Video" or "Always Changing and Growing up Boy Puberty Education Video."

We will have a viewing of the video for parents to view on campus on May 12, 2022, at 5:00 PM in the Middle School Conference Room. Please check the box and sign below if you would like to dismiss your child from the Growth and Development Class.
