HIV Letter 5th-12th

 Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th through 12th graders,,

We will be showing an educational video on HIV/AIDS prevention in June. This video will meet the state-mandated Omnibus Act of 1988, which states that HIV/AIDS prevention will be taught in Washington State Public Schools beginning in 5th grade and continuing through 12th grade yearly.

If you would like to view this program beforehand or if you intend to dismiss your student from the video, you can view the videos on YouTube.

For fifth graders, we will be watching ‘HIV and Me: Marissa’s Story’ [Link: youtu.be/S2J7bH1JQ40].

For sixth through twelfth graders, we will be watching ‘Understanding HIV/AIDS: Learn the Facts, Fight the Stigma, Stay Safe’ [Link: youtu.be/ZixbZVnvt4E].

A student may be dismissed from HIV/AIDS prevention education if the student’s parent or guardian has submitted a written objection.   Objection to the HIV Prevention video forms will be available at the school office. We can send one home with your child if you’re not able to come into the school to pick one up.

Thank you very much for your interest in this important educational program.
