MS COVID-19 Closure Memo #3 (Bounced Back From 03/26)

Dear parents and students,

All of you have been missed dearly over the last two weeks. A school is just not a school without students.

The middle school has been working hard from home and have been routinely gathering via video conferences. This Monday, all the middle school teachers will be participating in an all-day training with Summit Learning via video conferencing. It is our team's goal to continue to grow in our instructional practices and use of technology.

Over the next several weeks, I am going to be posting some challenges on our Facebook page. Each week, we will be drawing a name for all who participate in the challenge. The winner will receive a special family engagement prize basket! Please join us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MaryWalkerSD/

Finally, yesterday I mailed out the weekly newsletter to every middle school student. This packet is filled with pages of engaging learning activities! Please be sure to use this resource. Additionally, summit learning is available to students!

Stay home, stay healthy!

Brett Joachim, Principal
Springdale Middle School.

This weeks prize basket is a ice cream theme!!

MS COVID-19 Closure Memo

Dear Springdale Middle School Families,

I hope this email finds you in good health and good spirits. This first week of closure has sure been odd. Each day has been exceptionally busy planning and preparing...yet the campus and halls are empty and quiet. It is a little eerie!

Honestly, I am missing all our students, staff, and parents!

I am not missing the frequent bathroom patrols looking for students hiding out. Or, the counseling of a broken-hearted student who just lost their "first love." BUT, I am missing the high-fives from students, the laughter in the halls, classrooms filled with chatty learners and the occasional games in the gym or playground. I can't wait to have you back at school.

Please find attached the memo for this first week of closure. This memo is being mailed home too!

Remember, to call our COVID-19 Closure phone line(258.4798) of your have any needs, questions or comments!

Have a great week,

Mr. Joachim

MS COVID-19 Closure Memo

Dear Springdale Middle School parents and students,

I hope this memo finds you and your family healthy and well. We are wading into some unprecedented waters as we initiate the State's emergency proclamation to close all schools. The middle school staff, along with the entire team in our district, are committed to making sure our students and community are safe and sound during this trying period.

The middle school staff has worked hard over these last few days to develop some optional learning activities to share with our students. We are currently working on a Chromebook and novel checkout procedure. Additionally, we are compiling an activity packet that will be shared with all students by the end of the week.

I encourage all students to develop and maintain a daily schedule that keeps them actively engaged. This could include dedicated reading time, puzzle or game time, outside play, or creative art time.

Most importantly, I encourage all families to sustain healthy habits and practices during this concerning time by;
  • Maintaining social distancing and avoiding close contact with people who are sick,
  • Practicing good hygiene by cleaning hands often by using soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and
  • Daily cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces in common household areas (tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks).

Finally, we care about you and your family. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any help. If you are a first responder, health care worker, or severe need family who has child care concerns or needs meal delivery for school-age children, please call our central-line at 509.258.4798 for support.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly. I look forward to answering any of your questions. Stay tuned for a middle school memo and engagement packet!

Be safe and stay healthy,

Brett Joachim, Middle School Principal

On Friday, March 13, Governor Jay Inslee made a sweeping announcement that he would be mandating the closure of all K-12 schools statewide. The closures will go into effect by Tuesday, March 17 and schools will remain closed through at least Friday, April 24.

Today, the Mary Walker Admin team decided to implement our school closure starting tomorrow, March 16, 2020. More information will be coming soon.
