MS Memo: Map Growth Testing

MS Memo:  MAP Growth Testing

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful weekend.  This week our middle school students will be completing the MAP Growth test.  This is an online computer test that students complete on their Chromebooks.  The MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth.

The MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child's learning, it's easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.  Additionally, the data will help us plan the needed interventions to help our students overcome any barriers created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can help your child do their very best on the MAP Growth test.  Please make sure that they attend both of their assigned days of school.  You can also help them do their very best by ensuring they get a good night's sleep before their test dates.  Finally, please make sure your child brings their Chromebook to school fully charged.

We look forward to sharing with you the MAP's Family Report, which summarizes how your child is performing academically.

Thank you for your support!

MS Memo: Semester Grades, Google Classroom, Two-Day a Week

Dear Middle School Families,

Can you believe we are almost halfway through this wild 20/21 school year? The end of the semester, January 25, is fast approaching! This means that we get to post grades to let you know how your child is performing in school. Best of all, we plan to extend to two-days a week of in-person instruction with the new semester.

Finish Projects First
Our grading system focuses heavily on Projects (day-to-day work built around checkpoints) and lighter on Power Focus Areas (assessments of knowledge). Projects contribute 80% towards the overall grade, while Power Focus assignments weigh in at 20%. Please check your student's progress at Summitlearning.org to see how they are doing. If you have any questions, be sure to give us a call. Setting small daily goals and working towards accomplishing them will help your child achieve success. Please encourage your students to finish the semester strong by making sure all projects are completed.

Google classroom
All Middle School teachers have set up a Google Classroom, a digital classroom where teachers post daily videos and resources for students. These items will remain in Google Classroom for the entire year, so your child can go back at anytime to get a little extra help. Your child can also communicate with their teacher via the Google Classroom.

Two-Day a Week
Please plan on having your students attend two days a week starting January 25. Group A will attend Monday and Tuesday, and Group B will attend Thursday and Friday.

If you need any assistance, please be sure to call the middle school workroom at 258.4725 to get additional support!

We look forward to seeing our students wrap up this semester by finishing strong!!

Sincerely,
The Middle School Team.
