Walk Proud...
As I was walking down the Middle School hall, I was excited to see the following bulletin board with the quote, "Wherever life takes you, walk proud," by R. Stacey LaForme, the elected Chief of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation in Canada.
I love how Ms. Smith used this quote in her teaching and then had students color tennis shoes to build the bulletin board! Great Move!

Dear Parents, guardians, and students!
The excitement of the new school year is sure starting to bubble up! I can't wait to have students, staff, and families back in our hallways. One of my main goals this school year is to give students meaningful experiences that make learning engaging and fun. I am looking forward to seeing playful classroom games, amusing assemblies, and engaging field trips this school year. Additionally, I look forward to challenging a few students at a four-square game or two! I have been working on my backspin bounce.
Research has highlighted that "having fun while learning also helps students retain information better because the process is enjoyable and memorable." We have sure been through quite a bit during the last year and a half. This year, I am challenging our staff to seek joy-filled experiences within their classroom.
This year our first-day packets are going to be completed online. The link to these forms is posted on our Facebook and school website under the Family ID link. If possible, please complete these forms before the start of school. Additionally, families are welcomed to come into the school to complete the paperwork on a school computer. While you are in the building, please be sure to swing by my office to say "Hi!"
Finally, preschool and kindergarten registration is now open. If you know any three to five-year-old children, please encourage their parent(s) to stop by the K-8 school's office to complete their registration form for preschool or kindergarten. Ms. Tammy will be ready to help our newest students begin their public school journey.
As we enter the last two weeks of our summer, I hope that all of you find some extra time to have fun as a family. I look forward to seeing you soon.

MS Field Trip Reminder
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope that everyone is making the most of this remote learning day. Please be sure to work on the checkpoints to wrap up all the final projects. Remember, projects are worth 80 percent of your grade.
Tomorrow is our choice field trip day, where students have selected a field trip of their choosing: Hiawatha Bike Ride, Camp Gifford Ropes Course, Spokane Tribe Archeological Sites, Stonerose Fossil Dig. Those who have elected not to participate in field trips will stay home for a remote learning day.
Some students are still missing permission slips for the field trips. Please stop by the office to complete one, or fill out the attached form and return it via email or text.
Finally, it is going to be a hot and sunny day tomorrow. Please be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen.
See you in the morning.

Spring Testing
Students will be completing the Measure of Academic Progress(MAP) testing on Friday, June 4th, and Monday, June 7th. Please be sure to do your very best on this assessment. There will not be a state assessment this year.
Promotion
The 8th-grade promotion is on June 8th at 7 PM. We will be hosting this event outside under the new covered play area north of the Elementary building. We invite all 8th grade students to attend and encourage you to dress in a semi-formal manner. June 8th will be the last day of school for all 8th graders.
Field Trip
Middle School students will have an opportunity to participate in a field trip on Thursday, June 3rd. Students will select from one of four trips. All trips are limited to 25 students and will follow safety protocols. Additionally, all trips are going to be outside events.
Students will earn the right to participate in the field trips by showing evidence of achievement (being current or completing three items) in all classes and maintaining good behavior. Review the field trip options and make your selection at: MS Field Trip Description and Selection
Our students have demonstrated exceptional perseverance throughout this school year. I am looking forward to celebrating our 8th graders and participating in field trips with our students. Thank you for all your hard work.

Memo: Parent-Conference Week, Spring Break, Gradual Re-Opening
Dear MS Families,
As a young boy, my grandmother would often send my brother and I outside to find the first blossoming flowers. We would search high and low in the woods trying to find grandma a flower...I now know that see greatly enjoyed the peace and quiet with us being outside. I hope that everyone will find some time to enjoy this new season.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Next week is our parent-conferences. To help make sure that all students have in-person learning, we have modified our schedule for the week. Please note the follow change:
Monday: Hybrid Group A
Tuesday: Hybrid Group B
Wednesday: Remote Learning
Thursday: Conferences 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Friday: Conferences 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Spring Break:
April 5-9th is our spring break week. We encourage everyone to have to have a fun, yet safe, break. We will return from spring break on April 12th in our normal hybrid model with Group A students attending Monday and Tuesday, and Group B students attending Thursday and Friday.
Gradual Re-opening
On April 19th, it is our hope to open school to a full in-person learning model. We will be monitoring our COVID numbers closely and are excited to see our district move to more instructional dates. All of us are looking forward to getting back to our normal routines. More information will be coming out as soon as possible.
Have a great weekend.
